When small is big
A project conducted at the University of Bern has been analyzing the function and significance of small and medium-sized towns in Switzerland. It shows: Domestic politics and planning practice have not yet sufficiently recognized their potential.

Key Area

Politics and administration

The University of Bern is at the heart of Swiss politics: It has an outstanding network with politics, administration, embassies as well as national organizations, associations and parties. But the university is also internationally well networked: With the World Trade Institute, the University of Bern possesses something unique in Switzerland which builds a bridge to world trade. Research in Bern is moving Switzerland forward: Researchers from the fields of Political Science and Geography showed that the innovative and economic potential of small and medium-sized towns in Switzerland is often forgotten by politicians. The study contains groundbreaking inputs on Swiss spatial planning.
