Alexander von Humboldt
The naturalist and travel writer wrote more than 1000 essays over seven decades – a Bernese project team has compiled them for the first time and produced the most comprehensive Humboldt edition ever published.

Key Area

Intercultural knowledge

In an increasingly globalized world, cultural exchange and the understanding of our own and other cultures and religions are becoming more and more important. The University of Bern thus attaches great importance to intercultural knowledge. With its research, it aims to promote reflection on cultural values. Against this backdrop, a long-term, international research project was concluded in 2019: All of Alexander von Humboldt’s writings were combined in one edition – the most extensive of its kind to date.
